About This Place

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Bowery, Gyu-Ichiro Japanese BBQ offers an enticing blend of traditional Japanese flavors with a modern all-you-can-eat (AYCE) twist. Specializing in Japanese and barbecue cuisine, this cozy spot is a must-visit for those craving authentic Yakiniku alongside fresh sushi and sashimi selections.

The menu reads like a curated journey through Japan’s culinary staples: from the richly marbled beef belly that melts with each bite, to crisp and savory gyoza and perfectly seasoned takoyaki. The Gyu-Ichiro BBQ Box is a standout, allowing diners to grill an assortment of tender meats and seafood right at their table, infusing every piece with smoky char and umami-packed flavor. For sushi lovers, the variety is impressive, featuring favorites such as Yellow Tail Hamachi, Red Snapper, Salmon, and delicate sashimi platters that showcase fresh, clean-cut fish. Don’t miss the indulgent chawanmushi or the comforting miso soup, which round out the meal beautifully.

The dining atmosphere at Gyu-Ichiro is intimate and casual with an authentic flair, adorned with Japanese posters that transport guests to the heart of Tokyo’s bustling izakayas. Private booths provide a relaxed setting for groups or dates, and the seamless ordering system via iPad ensures prompt service. The highlight for many guests is the lively Tuesday AYCD hot sake special — a perfect companion to the rich flavors on the grill.

Real customer experiences echo the inviting charm of this neighborhood gem. Chak notes that while the sushi and sashimi can be somewhat modest in portion size, the beef belly consistently wins praise for its succulence. Mia Huynh lauds the spot for its lively atmosphere and balanced combination of AYCE BBQ and sushi — ideal for a casual dinner with friends or a cozy date night. George Fine appreciates the quick service and good value, especially noting the quality of the barbecue meats and fresh sashimi. Other patrons, like Cody Gahol, find the sushi rolls and sashimi refreshingly fresh, and despite the raw meat for grilling being average, the overall experience is a fantastic value. Keturah S. highlights the attentive service and fresh ingredients, making Gyu-Ichiro a welcoming place even without a reservation.

Gyu-Ichiro Japanese BBQ cleverly balances the art of Japanese grilling with sushi offerings, crafting an experience that’s both flavorful and approachable. Whether you’re a dedicated BBQ enthusiast or a sushi aficionado, this Bowery hotspot serves up an honest, enjoyable meal that keeps guests coming back for more.

Food was okay, the beef was a little bit questionable but the beef belly was delicious! There were hardly any vegetables. The sushi/sashimi were rather sloppy and small. Unlimited sake as well!

This AYCE bbq and sushi spot in Bowery is a great dinner or lunch spot with friends or for a date. The interior is decorated with Japanese posters and has private booths for you to enjoy your BBQ at. You order on an iPad and your food is brought out to you soon after. Price for dinner is ~$50, and on Tuesdays it's AYCD hot sake! We ordered a variety of meats as well as appetizers and sashimi. The appetizers were pretty solid. I enjoyed their seaweed salad and seafood pancake. Although their takoyaki was good, I felt like it was a bit too oily. The meat was alright. Although they had good sauces and spices to dip it in, I felt like the quality was a bit too tough for me. The sushi/sashimi was good—better than I expected! Our favorite cut of the night actually ended up being the garlic shrimp. I ended my meal with their jelly appetizer/dessert. Wish there were more options for their AYCE package, but overall, not bad!

Combo AYCE BBQ and Sushi / Sashimi joint on Bowery. The good: - our service was quick, when we ordered, it was out to us very fast. - service was good. - decent sashimi and sushi - the BBQ meats was good as well. The not so good: - I can't really find any fault with this place, the only exception was a personal one, hard to eat both Sashimi and BBQ at 1 sitting. Overall: very good value for the price, decent quality of both fish and meats at all you can have for 50$. For me personally, it was tough to have both kinds of food at one single sitting, if you have the stomach for it, this place is a good value for the quantity and quality of food. Update : 9/14/2025 -> still coming here, at $50, it's still IMO the best deal for sashimi AYCE, i just personally cannot do BBQ protein and raw proteins in the same meal, so when i come here, i primarily do sashimi and grill a bit o mushrooms and corn. As an alternative to a very large surf and turf @ $50, they have a weekday lunch special, for $30 that has 3 sushi rolls, eel, salmon and california, and a few limited BBQ meats, and most of the fried stuff available, not a bad reduced price and selection.

We'd go back! We had a good experience and things were as advertised for the Tuesday dinner special - however they don't advertise the Sapporo part when you arrive. You have to "know." Everything we had was very fresh! They were able to accommodate us although we did not have a reservation. Happy about that. The space is cute, and the bathroom was clean. They do limit the length of time you can place orders, so get what you feel you need promptly. Some of the meat dishes have a marinade on them and I loved that. The other meats didn't have seasoning but there is a powdered seasoning and some sauces at the table. I do wish the menu had more vegetable items - they were very limited. Also, having fried rice and a dessert menu would be neat. Perfect for a group because the price is fixed, especially with the Tuesday night deal that includes select beverages.

This place is a fantastic "hole in the wall" spot! The all-you-can-eat deal is a steal. The sashimi and sushi rolls are surprisingly fresh! I couldn't stop eating the sashimi! While the raw meat and seafood for grilling isn't the best I've had, it's still a great value to the meal.

We came here for a company party with around 30 people and this was accompanied in the back room, where we sat at 6 tables and different fees for Adults of $48 and $24 for kids, the options were impressive for an All you can eat sushi, sashimi and BBQ were all options that were plentiful but lack the depth of flavor. We were impressed how helpful the staff was as it was a Saturday night and the restaurant was busy. The meat was tender need to be cooked well and the entrees lack something that we cannot put my stamp on.
